From Hobby to Ritual: The Story Behind Flora + Moon

Hi, I’m Christina—the maker behind Flora + Moon.

This little business of mine started as a simple hobby in my Chicago apartment. I was on a mission to create something better—a cleaner, safer alternative to the home fragrance products I was seeing on the shelves. So many of them were filled with toxic ingredients, and I knew there had to be a more intentional way to bring scent into the home.

What began with a few small batches quickly became a passion. I started researching ingredients, experimenting with scent blends, and pouring candles at night after work. I fell in love with the process—not just the making, but the dreaming. Naming each scent. Designing each label. Imagining how each product might become part of someone’s daily ritual.

Over time, this hobby turned into something bigger. I launched Flora + Moon to share my creations with others—and now, it’s my full-time job. It still blows me away to think about how far it’s come.

At the heart of Flora + Moon is a commitment to being as clean and eco-friendly as possible. I choose ingredients and materials that are gentle on both people and the planet—from the wax and wicks to the packaging and shipping supplies. I believe in thoughtful sourcing, sustainable practices, and always being transparent about what goes into the things I make.

My collections are seasonal, shifting every three months to reflect the feeling of each new chapter. Whether it’s the earthy warmth of autumn, the soft florals of spring, or the golden glow of summer, every scent is designed to tell a story and ground you in the moment.

Outside of the studio, I’m deeply involved in animal rescue—a cause that’s very close to my heart. I regularly foster dogs from high-kill shelters and cruelty cases, giving them a safe place to land while they find their forever homes. Last year alone, I fostered ten dogs and donated over $4,000 to local rescue organizations through Flora + Moon. It’s an honor to use this platform to give back in a tangible way.

Flora + Moon is more than candles. It’s a reflection of care, creativity, and connection. Each product is made with intention, in small batches, with love. Whether you're lighting a candle to mark a quiet moment or filling your space with a scent that feels like home, I’m so grateful to be a part of that experience.
